http://www.worldgames-iwga.org/vsite...s-item,00.html From the IWGA: Mountaineering and Sumo 26 Nov 2002 18:19 The 2002 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International World Games Association (IWGA), held on November 22 in Colorado Springs, USA, admitted two new members: the International Mountaineering & Climbing Federation (UIAA) and the International Sumo Federation (IFS) bring the total of International Sports Federations affiliated with the IWGA to 33. The International Wushu Federation, the third applicant who got turned down by the AGM, will be eligible again, provided wushu secures its place in The 8th World Games 2009. The IWGA Executive Committee recommended that the AGM consider only applications of new sports which will actually feature in The 7th World Games 2005 Duisburg. Competition climbing and sumo will both be on the official sports program of 2005 Duisburg. UIAA President Ian \'Mac\' McNaught-Davis pledged to do the IWGA proud by staging particularly spectacular and easy to understand climbing competitions during The 7th World Games: \'First man or woman to reach the top of the wall wins - whoever gets up highest before falling off wins too (the athletes use ropes)! Virtually anybody could be a judge in our disciplines Speed and Difficulty.\' Sumo featured already on the invitational sports program of The 6th World Games 2001 Akita and, as expected in Japan, proved highly succesful in terms of gate and media exposure. Sumo\'s international character and appeal was in fact so convincing that the Duisburg Organizing Committee endorsed the sport from the outset and supported the IFS\' application for IWGA membership. Clicking on either the mountaineering or the sumo pictogram will take you to the official site of the respective International Federation. 台灣攀岩資料庫 <a href=\"http://www.rockclimbing.idv.tw/\">www.RockClimbing.idv.tw</a> <font size=1>[ This message was edited by: kevin on 2002-12-20 17:48 ]</font>

http://www.uiaa.ch/news/newsitem.asp?idnews=271 Competition climbing is in 2005 World Games International Federations vote in Colorado Springs 25.11.2002 17:00 The International World Games Association (IWGA) meeting in Colorado Springs at the 36th congress and general assembly of the General Association of International Sport Federations (GAISF) voted to accept the UIAA into the IWGA which confirms the inclusion of competition climbing in the 2005 World Games in Duisberg Germany. UIAA President Ian McNaught-Davis represents the UIAA at GAISF but also attending for this important and historic IWGA vote was Reindert Lenselink the General Secretary of the UIAA’s International Council for Competition Climbing (ICC). Reindert Lenselink said: “The result of the vote was expected, but it is fantastic for it now to be confirmed that competition climbing is part of the definitive programme for the 2005 World Games in Germany which has been an important country for the development of competition climbing because of the work of the German Alpine Club. The World Games is an excellent opportunity for competition climbing to feature as part of a large and important multi sports event, which is essential experience for working towards the ultimate goal of being included in the Olympic Games programme which may take at least 10 years.” The theme of this year’s GAISF meeting was Modernization of International Sports Federation Management, but a subject in the minds of some GAISF members is the possibility they might be dropped from the Olympic Games programme as an outcome of an IOC review. Also, in addition to the possibility of being dropped from the Games, sports such as athletics and rowing face the possibility of cuts in the number of events in the Olympic programme. The IOC will soon be reporting on the outcome of its review into the size and cost of hosting the Olympic Games. Olympic hopefuls such as bowling, golf and rugby will hoping for an indication if there is a place for them in the Olympic Games programme. [addsig]
