12 July – 31st July 2007 UIAA Youth Rock climbing Festival Europe – Asia 2007
This Festival represents a unique opportunity to explore the best of climbing in Russia in this long international youth meeting. Organised by the Climbing Federation of Russia it is supported by the Department of physical culture, sports and tourism of the Administration of Yekaterinburg Children’s Olympic Reserve School of Mountaineering Sports of Yekaterinburg. The Ural Mountains forms the natural geographical border between two continents – Europe and Asia. Starting at Yekaterinburg this meeting begins with climbing training on the rock massifs of “Shikhan” moving onto the limestone crag of Tolstyak and then moving onto climbing around the beautiful city of St Petersburg at the granite Karelia and “Yastrebinoe” lake. Participants should expect to be able to climb grades Fr 5-7c. It is an ideal opportunity for sharing climbing and bouldering with local Russian climbers. Added extras include swimming in a lake, the museum of geology, ecological action, optional rafting and ropes course as well as trekking.
